Dear Parishioners,

Annually business people take up an inventory of their goods. This task helps them to see what they have in stock, what they have sold best, what was difficult to sell, and what they need to get rid of. This is important because they want to understand their business better and make more profit in the year to come. In our spiritual life, Lent is a time for us to do the spiritual inventory. We have six weeks to take account of our lives. Where we have been excessive, we want to slow down; where we have fallen short, we want to make it up; and where we have done well, we want to continue to build upon it. Certainly this spiritual inventory will help us to reconcile ourselves with God and live according to Christ’s teachings. From our experience, this is a life long commitment. That is why we need all six weeks of Lent. It is not a business inventory that we want to hurry to get it done. Sometimes it takes long to acknowledge our sins and failures, and it takes even longer to remove them from our life. That is why, as we begin our six weeks of Lenten journey, we are reminded to, “turn away from sin, and be faithful to the Gospel.”
